National Daughter’s Day is coming up soon. If you’re a dad, and you’re looking for something to do with your daughter to celebrate, I’ve got a list of 10 things right here.

Bonding with daughters isn’t easy for all dads

For some dads, bonding with a daughter can be tough. Not all guys have been raised to show their emotions. They’re often told to bury them. Not to mention, it’s often like daughters speak a different language than you, and you’re always translating what they mean incorrectly. But there are some things you can do to help that relationship along the way.

National Daughter’s Day happens on September 25th and is meant for that reason. It’s an opportunity to strengthen a bond between a daughter and her parents and it’s an opportunity to create core memories with them.

Having a daughter is an incredible gift

I was blessed with a daughter first, and I learned quickly that being a girl dad is the best thing in the world. When we were still in the delivery room, a nurse made sure to take her foot, which was still covered in ink from her footprint, and made another footprint on the back of my hand. She said to get ready to get walked all over by my little girl.

While I wouldn't say I got "walked on" by my daughter, that nurse probably wasn't off by that much. There were plenty of times where I felt like I couldn't do anything right. I had no idea how to raise a girl, But I always did the best I could.

I’ll never forget hearing her tell one of her friends that her dad can fix anything.

She was completely wrong. I could not have been more unsure about how to fix things, or be brave, or any of the other things people think dads should be. I had no idea what I was doing. I faked it. But man, did it feel good that she thought I could. So I would always try. It didn’t matter what it was. If she thought I could fix it, I was going to do the best I could.

I’ve always raised my daughter to be strong, to stand on her own two feet, and to go get the things she wants and to not depend on anyone else to get it for her and now, she’s grown into an incredibly independent woman.

Dads, take time with your daughters.  Take every opportunity you can to do things with them. Take them with you when you go places. Listen to them when they talk. Learn about them. Before you know it, they will be on to the next stage of their lives.
