It always breaks my heart when I see stories in the news about animal cruelty. Some of the stuff I can't possibly fathom a person doing to a dog, cat or any other animal.

Now, lawmakers are taking a big stand against animal cruelty.

According to WIVB, the U.S. House has passed a bill that makes animal cruelty a federal felony.

The "Pact Act" bans crushing, burning, drowning, impaling, among other things.

Congressman Vern Buchanan says the bill would specifically ban animal cruelty recorded on video, which would solve a loophole, as laws before have de-legalized creating and selling those videos, but not the acts of cruelty in them.

Those guilty of animal cruelty would now face up to seven years in prison.
