If you own a home in New York State, there is a good chance that you might see a visitor on your ring camera in the next few days.

The spring will officially arrive this week and across New York State we have already seen a few days with record high temperatures. The on again, off again warm weather is exactly what you might expect here in New York State in March.

But the weather changes may also mean that your energy bills are ever changing as well. As we see a shift to a more energy efficient state, people are seeing their electric bills skyrocket.

But have we seen the peak of the electric cost yet? There are some who are concerned that a trade war with Canada might impact the price of electricity as much of New York State imports electricity from our neighbors to the north.

Over the last few weeks, many residents in New York State have seen people show up on their ring camera at their front door who work for power companies that are hooking up the new "smart meters".

A post on the NYSEG website says that "Smart meters use two-way wireless communications to securely enable detailed hourly usage information and meter status, so you can make more informed decisions to get the most out of every energy dollar".

We were not even home when they installed a smart meter on our home. I have been hearing both good an bad things about having them as some say their electric bills have gone through the roof after getting a new meter.

Don't be surprised if you see someone on your ring camera that is part of the installation team in the next few weeks as they go neighborhood to neighborhood.
