New York State ‘Sets’ Age to Go Trick-or-Treating Unsupervised
New York State has an idea about when would be a good age that your kids can go with their friends trick-or-treating and without adult supervision.
Halloween is the most fatal day of the year involving cars and their biggest concern is keeping everyone safe.
Here is the suggestion according to the New York State Consumer Alert:
Pedestrians
- Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult while trick-or-treating. Older, responsible children should review their route with an adult and agree on a time to return home.
- Use reflective tape as a trim for costumes, outerwear and even treat bags to make them visible to motorists at dusk and in the dark. Reflective tape is found in hardware, bicycle, and sporting goods stores.
We conducted a poll and asked New Yorkers what would be the best age for kids to go trick or treating by themselves and most said 13 years old or older.
NEXT: There was a really weird situation that happened in Springville, New York when one mother was going through her kid's bag of candy. She found a condom inside and the internet was outraged by the situation.
While some parents were pretty unhappy, other parents were wondering why the kid's parents were not checking what was going in the bag to begin with?
The comments on Facebook were pretty devided:
-Donna wrote: "Those aren’t cheap….candy would have cost a lot less"
-Melissa said: "The fact that people think this is funny is disturbing."
-Ashley wrote in: "Reminds me of the episode of "everybody love Raymond" i think that why ppl may find it funny, cuz I sure did...but in the end that's crazy someone would actually give that out."
-Traci turned it on the poster and wrote "Pay more attention to what people are handing out".
Though, in defense of the person who posted the picture, usually the kids will all walk up together and the parents will wait by the curb.
