New Yorkers With Siri On Their Apple Devices Could Be Due For A Check
Check your phone or other Apple device. If you have Siri on it, you could be due money from a class-action lawsuit.
How many times have you been talking with a friend about somewhere that you'd like to eat, or somewhere that you'd like to buy something from, then later that day, you find ads for that restaurant or store in apps that you use?
It's not a myth that your phone listens to your conversations. It happens every day. But if it's happened to you without your consent, you could be due your part of $95 million from a class-action lawsuit. It's a settlement from Apple that claims they never used Siri to build marketing profiles. They claim they use Siri to improve Siri. But they wanted to move forward from the concerns about third-party grading.
Who is eligible for these payments?
The lawsuit claims that anyone who "owned or purchased a Siri-enabled device and experienced an unintended Siri activation during a confidential or private communication between September 17, 2014 and December 31, 2024" would be due to receive part of the settlement. That applies to any Siri-enabled device such as a Siri-enabled iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, HomePod, iPod touch, or Apple TV. If you have multiple devices, you can submit claims for up to five Siri Devices.
How much will you receive?
They will not know how much money will actually be awarded until they can determine how many valid claims have been submitted.
What do you need to do to claim your money?
Some people received codes (a Claimant ID Code and Confirmation Code) in the mail. They will need to go to this website and enter the codes. If you did not receive a code, but think you are eligible, simply go to the website and click "New Claim" to begin your claim.
