Famous Buffalo Chocolate Company Has Uncertain Future
Buffalo is known for snow, sports and the food.
When it comes to the food, there really is no better place in the country for great bar food than Western New York. From the wings to beef on weck, Buffalo has it made for outstanding food; with great local restaurants that serve those dishes.
However, don't sleep on Buffalo's sweet treats.
Western New York has amazing bakeries and chocolate companies. These companies have been around for years -- decades in many cases.
From Fowler's to Parkside, and Sweet Jenny's to Platter's...Buffalo has it made with its confectionary shops.
Niagara Chocolate is another famous candy place, which has been around since 1956. They have sold chocolate at their business office at 3470 Genesee Street in Cheektowaga. However, those days are over and the future is uncertain for Niagara Chocolates.
Buffalo Business First is reporting that Niagara Chocolates parent company, Migros Industrie, is shuttering SweetWorks Confections LLC. SweetWorks makes Niagara Chocolates.
Migros is shutting down Niagara Chocolates business office in Cheektowaga at the end of September. Production will end in June but products will be sold in Western New York. at least for the time being.
The good news is that BBF is reporting that Migros will transfer Niagara Chocolates' brand to World's Finest Chocolates, which is based out of Chicago. There's no word on what that company has planned for the Niagara Chocolates brand, but there is hope the end is not here for the popular chocolate company in Buffalo.
Niagara's orange chocolate bars used to be a family favorite when I was growing up. This news is sad and unfortunate but hopefully, they will still have chocolates sold in Western New York in the future, even if the business office is shutting down.
