According to a post on the Town of West Seneca’s Facebook page, New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) says the outage is expected to last about three minutes—just long enough for clocks, microwave ovens, and other electronic devices to need resetting when you get home from work.
"NYSEG has scheduled a 3-minute planned outage for tomorrow 5/13 at 10:00 am to restore Langner substation back to normal after completion of maintenance".
Are You Ready for Summer Power Outages?
With summer storm season approaching, now may be a good time to think about how prepared your household is for unexpected outages.
In recent years, Western New York has experienced several storms with powerful winds capable of knocking out electricity for hours—or even days. Whether your lights only flicker for a few seconds or you face a prolonged outage, many homeowners are considering backup generators to keep essential appliances running.
This Outage Is Part of a Planned Upgrade
Fortunately, this week’s outage is not weather-related. Instead, it is part of a scheduled upgrade at a local substation designed to improve the reliability of the electric system.
Rising Electric Costs and Smart Meter Concerns
Electricity continues to be a hot topic across New York State as many residents deal with higher utility bills.
Another issue drawing attention is the installation of smart meters. If your home has not yet received one, there is a good chance your neighborhood will see installations soon. Some homeowners support the technology, while others have chosen to opt out.
Only a Short Interruption Expected
The good news is that this planned outage in West Seneca will be very brief. Still, it is always a smart idea to be prepared whenever the power goes out—even if only for a few minutes.
