Retailers were overwhelmed with the amount of Powerball tickets sold between the most recent draw and the previous one, with some gas station employees even stating they couldn’t perform “regular store maintenance” due to how many people were coming in for lottery tickets.
Once you got your ticket, you may have been overly eager to see whether or not you won the jackpot.
However, there was a bit of a wait this time around.
We've had delays before when it comes to the Powerball drawing, but this time, the delay lasted nearly 11 hours.
Here are the winning Powerball numbers for the Monday draw.
Did you win? Hopefully you were able to snag a portion of the prize!
According to the California Lottery on Twitter, there was a technical error that has caused a delay in the Monday night lottery drawing. The delay is a result of a “participating lottery needing extra time to complete the required security protocols.”
It’s unclear what state caused the hold up, but the California Lottery clarified that it was not happening in California. However, they did not specify which jurisdiction, as it is against the lottery’s policy, according to the Associated Press.
In a statement by the Multi-State Lottery Association, we learned that at least one lottery was late when it came to processing its sales and play data, and the Powerball requires all 48 participating lotteries to submit their sales and play data prior to the winning numbers being selected.
You may remember, there was a similar issue a few weeks ago that delayed the Powerball drawing. And back in April, there was another delay of approximately four hours.
However, this is by far one of the biggest delays we have seen from the Powerball.
If there is no winner for this draw, the next Powerball jackpot is projected to be $2.3 billion. Good luck!
