Hot Patches are the preferred method of fixing potholes since the asphalt sets and binds better than cold patches and lasts longer. The problem is that hot patches are only available when asphalt plants are open, and most in Western New York close down during the winter months.

Most are now open, and that means crews can get hot asphalt to start fixing potholes.

How To Report Pot Holes In Western New York

If you see a pothole on state-owned roads, you can call 1-800-POTHOLE (1-800-768-4653). If there are potholes on roads by the county or town and village, you will need to contact that local department of public works.

In Erie County, you can call the Pothole Hotline at (716) 858-7966 or email potholes@erie.gov. In the city of Buffalo, you can report potholes by calling 311 (or 716-851-4890)
