The Buffalo Sabres started the regular season wih a decisive 4 to 1 win over the Anaheim Ducks in a game played in Helsinki, Finland on Friday.  Thomas Vanek led the way with a pair of power play goals and an assist.  Captain Jason Pominville had a goal and two assists while Luke Adam has a pair of assists.  New Sabre Ville Leino, a native of Finland scored the other Buffalo goal.

The Sabres built a 2-nothing first period lead and pretty much controlled the game the rest of the way.

Ryan Miller was solid in goal making 29 saves.

The Sabres finish their European trip Saturday in Berlin against the Los Angeles Kings.
