It’s only been said 16 times over the last 46 years, but one of the largest fan bases in the world has created a day out of it.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…the first of George Lucas’ blockbuster Star Wars movies hit American theaters on May 25, 1977. The month of May has always been significant for Star Wars fans, and it became even more so when they self-proclaimed a holiday in the franchise’s honor.

It is perhaps the most memorable Star Wars quote of all time and it started an annual celebration: “May The Force Be With You.” And if you say it a little fast, it sounds like “May the 4th Be With You.”

So it’s no surprise that May 4th ended up being called Star Wars Day (also known as Intergalactic Star Wars Day and Luke Skywalker Day).

And that’s why Paula’s Donuts is making a few specially-created donuts, made with love, to celebrate Star Wars Day.

Paula’s Donuts announced on Facebook that they would be unveiling a Storm Trooper, Chewbacca, and a Baby Yoda donut, and they look soo good!!

I can’t think of a better way to start the day.

The History Behind Star Wars Day On May 4th

Star Wars Day first became a holiday back in 2008 when the first Facebook groups in support of Star Wars appeared for Luke Skywalker Day, which happened to take place on May 4th. Many people began to associate “May the Fourth Be With You,” as a result of the event and the day it landed on. By a few years time, in 2011 to be exact, “May The 4th Be With You” caught wind on college campuses and Star Wars Day began, with the first organized event happening at the Toronto Underground Cinema.
