Now that New York State has passed its budget, there are some bills that have become law, including a new "Super Speeder" law.

Super Speeder Law Now In Place In New York State

In an effort to slow down speeders across New York, the New York State DOT has installed speed cameras all over the state. These cameras will catch speeders and send them tickets. Drivers avoid going to court and have to pay the tickets.

Most times, drivers avoid getting points on their license when they get caught on a speed camera, but what happens if they don't change their behavior after several speed camera tickets?

Well, the new law answers that question. New York's "Super Speeder" law now states that any driver with 16 or more violations in 12 months will be required to install so-called Intelligent Speed Limiter technology.

These violations include getting caught on speed cameras, red light cameras, and cameras on School buses.

What is Intelligent Speed Limiter technology?

This is a piece of hardware that is installed directly into the car's onboard computer and interfaces with GPS tracking to restrict the car's maximum speed to the posted speed limit.

It doesn't allow the driver to speed.

New York State now joins several other states, including Washington State, Washington, DC, and Virginia, with similar laws.

So what do you think? If someone gets a certain number of speeding tickets, should they be restricted by the DMV on how fast they can drive?
