It's truly amazing the sacrifices that our service men and women make to ensure our freedom.   Take this week's Hometown Hero, for instance.  He has always known that he was going to be a marine and even sacrificed seeing the birth of his son to make it happen.

This week's Hometown Hero is 19 year old Lance Corporal Zacharey Riggs from North Tonawanda.  He has been stationed in Japan but is expected home shortly.  His nomination read:

Zach dedicates his life to his job, even if that means living thousands of miles apart from his family, myself, and our son. For as long as I have known him, I knew the Marines was his dream. He gained his pride when he gained his title. In just a few short months, he'll be meeting our son Alex for the first time. He'll be 16 months old. We count down everyday until he can come home. We love you, and can't wait until you're home. -- Kayla Thompson

We can't wait until you are home too.  We wish all of our soldiers a safe return to their families that love them so much and we are proud to call you our Hometown Hero this week Zacharey.

If you would like to honor or remember someone who is currently serving our country or has served in the past, click the button below. We will choose a new Hometown Hero each Friday. If their name is chosen, we will not only feature them on WYRK.com, but we’ll be sure to thank them for their service on the air and dedicate the first song on Noon Tunes to them.

Once again, thank you to Lance Corporal Zacharey Riggs, our Hometown Hero of the week!
