We're just about at May. That means that in the next week or two, Western New York will be outside much more. We cannot wait to enjoy the sunshine and warmer temps; we definitely deserve it after the last four months.

One of my favorite traditions growing up was going to parks with my dad. We would grab a football, maybe lunch at a local Chinese place and bring our dog. It was something I always looked forward to.

There are some popular parks in Western New York, such as Delaware Park, Ellicott Creek Park and Cazenovia Park. All are fantastic.

One park that I grew up going to in the northtowns is West Canal Park. The strange part is that it usually isn't packed and I'm not entirely sure why.

It's located on Tonawanda Creek Road in North Tonawanda.

The park runs a few hundred yards and features Tonawanda Creek with a marina that can hold boats. It also has many picnic pavilions and a playground. We always go there to give our dog plenty of running room and she loves investigating the creek as well.

I know those in North Tonawanda and Wheatfield know about this park, but I'm not sure why it isn't as packed as it should be on the weekends in the spring and summer.

Come to think of it, there are other underrated parks in Western New York as well. What are some of the others that come to mind?
