This Western New York Village Is Tired Of The Disrespect
If you thought people wouldn’t notice, you are wrong. One village in Western New York is fed up with the residents who continue to disrespect the new community space.
Early Wednesday morning, one of the admins for the Village of Depew, NY Facebook page shared an update, calling people out for the destructive behavior. It caught the attention of the community, with a few dozen people sharing it on their own newsfeed.
You can see that post below.
“I wrote about issues of not respecting the upgrades that have been made to Fireman's Park in last week's Depew Bee. The water "fights" in the new bathrooms in the Pavilion. The climbing and standing atop the water fountain at the new Pavilion. The abusing of the Fitness Court facility by youngsters.... that are actually not old enough to be using the facility,
And then tonight...a group of under 10-year-olds riding their scooters on the newly renovated basketball courts and leaving rubber skid marks on the refreshed playing surface. Not to mention the young man I caught climbing one of the new basketball hoops.
Also, on this same Tuesday evening, the same group of kids were trampling on the fresh mulch that was placed at the DFD Firefighter Memorial in preparation of next week's Annual Inspection Ceremony. In fact, one of the Company flag holders was broke out of the concrete base earlier on Tuesday.
The Village has invested more than $2.2 million so far in the first two phases of upgrades to the park, and to have the facilities be treated so poorly by those that stand to use it the most in the years to come, is really such a disappointment.
We have to do better, and it starts at home.”
When the Fireman’s Park started their renovations, residents in Depew and the surrounding communities were excited to use the facilities. Now it sounds like these services could be in jeopardy if people do not clean up their act or have better supervision for these individuals.
Fireman’s Park is an amazing place to go, especially in the fall, so hopefully the vandalism comes to a halt.
