Have plans this Saturday? I hope you'll join us at the Walden Galleria as we partner with the doctors and staff from Roswell Park.

This Saturday is the Colorectal Cancer Awareness Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The facts are that early detection can increase your chances of survival, and whats more, prevention could indeed save your life.

What can you do to improve your chances? Are you susceptible to colon cancer? What steps/tips can you do to avoid facing this life threatening disease? These are just a few of the many questions that you can ask one on one and face to face with the experts from Roswell Park.

I will be on hand as well to help support the staff and get the word out about the dangers of not getting screened. There is even an interactive display that will allow you to walk through a colon (yes, you read that correctly).

According to the American Cancer Society...estimates for colorectal cancer in the United States for 2014 are:

  • About 96,830 new cases of colon cancer
  • About 40,000 new cases of rectal cancer
  • About 50,310 deaths from colorectal cancer

If you are 50 or older, this is one event you can't afford to miss. There are even added incentives if you pre-register. Those who pre-register for the expo will have a chance to win an autographed Stevie Johnson Buffalo Bills jersey, and attendees can also be entered for a chance to win tickets to one of three summer concerts at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center: Journey on June 24; One Republic on August 9; and Rascal Flatts on September 4.

To pre-register, go to roswellpark.org/expo. Registration is not required in order to attend the event.

See you this weekend at the Galleria in Cheektowaga!
