Buffalo Sabres fans across Western New York and beyond are still reeling from the news of the death of beloved broadcaster Rick Jeanneret.

The Sabres organization broke the news Thursday night that the 81-year-old had passed away after a two year battle with multiple organ failures. Since then, tributes have been steadily pouring in for the veteran play-by-play anchor, and fans have even set up a memorial outside of KeyBank center.

Jeanneret began his tenure with the Sabres in 1971, and continued working for the franchise until his retirement in 2022, marking him the longest tenured announcer in the history of the NHL.

Supporters continue to adore the HOF broadcaster for his emotional calls and excitement for the game ("Now do you believe?!"), and generations of fans have fond memories of his over 50 years in Buffalo sports.

"Rick was indeed a very special and very loved man, to and by all, who knew him and listened to him, his magic, and his command. How glad I am to have known him. How lucky were we all to have been around him and to have listened to him." - Terry Pegula, Buffalo Sabres owner

In true Buffalo fashion, Sabres fans are stepping up to benefit a good cause in honor of his legacy.

Recently, Buffalo Bills fans donated thousands of dollars to the P.U.N.T. Pediatric Cancer Collaborative after the passing of Bills tight end Dawson Knox’s brother, Luke.

And in 2020, after the loss of quarterback Josh Allen’s beloved grandmother Patricia, fans gave over a million dollars to Oishei Children’s Hospital - enough to open a new pediatric recovery wing that bears her name.

Sabres Fans Donating In Honor Of Rick Jeanneret

A Buffalo reddit user proposed the idea of donating to a charitable cause in memory of the iconic announcer.  He suggested fellow fans donate $50 to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, in honor of his 50+ years with the Sabres.
