Limo companies are folding in New York State and for obvious reason. New York State is making it harder and harder to make enough money for these companies.

If you have wondered why the prices have gone up so much that is why. You used to be able to get a limo for a good price and it would cost you maybe $30 per person to go to a concert or event. Now, whether it is prom, weddings or other special occasions it really costs a lot to get a limo.

Of course, it is done for safety reasons after some major accidents throughout the State. In 2018, the most deadly limo crash happened in New York State where 20 people were killed because of an accident that could have been avoided.

Now, New York State has laws in place including, limos must be "retired" after 10 years of 350,000 miles, stricter insurance laws, more mandatory safety checks, GPS trackers and CDL drivers.

New York State Limo companies have to follow all of the New York State rules and they are pretty lengthy. In the past 3 years, in fact, New York State has taken AWAY license for limo companies:

  • Revoking 98 altered vehicle (stretch limousine) registrations, since Dec. 2022 for fraudulent registration paperwork.
  • Pursued 21 driver license actions related to cases of improperly registered limousines since 2023.
  • Arrested and charged 20 individuals with various misdemeanors and felonies associated with fraudulently registering and operating limousines.
  • Took administrative action against 79 licensed inspection stations and 96 certified inspectors since 2023.

When you put it into perspective it is pretty scary that there are times that you can have drivers like that.
