It's not every day that you look out your window and a black bear is chilling in your back yard.

Less then a mile from my house, a black bear was spotted in someone's yard for hours, on Clinton Street on Saturday morning. The bear, which weighed about 150 pounds, was called in to police and the DEC around 9:30 AM.

The DEC officer we spoke with said it's not unusual to see bears on the move this time of year. Mother bears are trying to drive off their cubs and male bears are seeking out territories to call their own. Bears tend to travel  the path of least resistance, choosing routes such as creeks or along power lines, which is why officers let this one get away once it started heading towards Buffalo Creek.
