Big changes are coming to the security team at Buffalo Public Schools.

Yesterday members of the Buffalo School Board approved a $3 million proposal to purchase new security equipment for all the schools across the district.

According to WGRZ, the new equipment proposed in the plan includes new handheld metal detectors, two-way radios, and concealed weapon detection systems.

The concealed weapon detection systems are like the same systems that are used by the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium and the Buffalo Sabres at Keybank Center.

The equipment will start to be used in the school district in November with all equipment being used by the end of the year.

There have been several incidents of violence at buffalo public schools since the start of the school year and the school board felt that the addition of the new equipment will help keep those incidents from happening again.

Two of the major incidents that took place were a stabbing at the Buffalo School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality back in September and then a major fight at  McKinley High School that ended up resulting in a 16-year-old student being arrested by Buffalo Police.

The Buffalo School board voted on the proposal during a meeting last night and the board voted unanimously for the measure to be passed.

The goal of the new equipment is to make sure that every student in the Buffalo School District has access to a safe learning environment.
