There was a coyote spotted in Western New York and caught in an incredible video with something that it is dragging.

In the video, you can see the coyote pulling something toward the woods in someone's backyard just past their pool fence. There was a debate on Facebook about what the coyote was dragging. Some were saying it was a deer others thought it might be a dog or a cat. A deer seems most likely, but the debate caused the comment section to be entertaining with guesses

Right now, we are about to be in season for coyotes when they are having their pups, which could cause them to be very territorial in Western New York.

The New York State DEC posted a reminder about how to handle coyote encounters if you were to come across one. Note that coyotes usually never want to come in contact with or address a human, so if you come across a coyote that is not leaving the area, you should consider the coyote dangerous. According to the New York State website:

  • If you see a coyote, be aggressive in your behavior-stand tall and hold arms out to look large. If a coyote lingers for too long, then make loud noises, wave your arms, or throw sticks and stones.

  • Contact your local police department and DEC regional office for assistance if you notice that coyotes are exhibiting "bold" behaviors and have little or no fear of people.

The best thing that you can do to prevent coyotes from coming to your house or close to your house would be to make sure that you are not accidentally providing it as a food source. Examples of it getting food from your house without you even knowing would be either your garbage can or pet food that is left outside for an 'outdoor' pet.
