Football season has officially begun, and the air is beginning to feel like that familiar, crisp breeze that hugs us at the bonfire. Happy fall, y’all! 

While the first day of fall begins on Sept. 22, many people declare Labor Day as the signified “unofficial end to summer,” thus beginning the next season – and those who believe in that sentiment may not be too far off. 

In fact, many places around New York state are already seeing the leaves change colors! 

If you are someone who has been waiting to break out the sweaters that have been collecting dust in the closet, get ready! You can get an early jump on enjoying the fall foliage in New York state when you remember to check in with the fall foliage map! 

How To Track Fall Foliage

Thanks to I Love New York, we are able to find weekly fall foliage reports, allowing us to see where the fall foliage peaks (and when) around New York state. You can save the link for those updates when you click here.   

The first weekly Fall Foliage report is out, and it appears that there are already some locations where you can go to see the foliage! 

Where To See Early Fall Foliage In New York

Heading into the weekend of Sept. 13-15, there are signs of leaves starting to change color in parts of the Adirondack Mountains, including the Lake George area. There are also early signs of fall foliage in parts of the Southern Tier near Allegany and Chautauqua.

When Does Fall Foliage Peak?

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the fall foliage will be at or near peak in New York by Friday, Oct. 11.
