A large fire shut down portions of Southwestern Boulevard in Eden on Friday evening, drawing a massive emergency response. Flames and thick smoke could be seen from miles away during the height of the blaze.

According to eyewitnesses on Facebook and other local apps, crews responded quickly to the scene and closed off sections of the roadway as they worked to contain the fire.

In a post from The Southtowns Scanner, it was reported that the fire was brought under control a couple of hours after the initial alarm.

"Numerous fire departments are on scene of a multi alarm commercial structure fire on Southwestern Boulevard in Eden. Southwestern Boulevard (Route 20) is closed in both directions between South Creek Road and Eden Town Line Road until further notice".

There’s no official word yet on injuries, but authorities continue to investigate what caused the fire. Residents in the area are urged to watch for any remaining road closures or delays.

At one point, smoke from the fire was visible as far away as the I-90.
