Belated 100th birthday to the Girl Scouts of America. The Boy Scouts had been around for a short time  and Juliette Gordon Low of Savannah, Georgia figured why not the same thing for girls. 18 girls were at the first Girl Scout meeting including some from a local orphanage and the focus was on developing the 3 C’s – courage, character and confidence. Today, the Girl Scouts has more than 3.2 million girls and adults across 90 countries.  Nearly 60 million living women in the U.S. today are Girl Scout alumnae.

The U-S Treasury has minted 350-thousand silver dollar coins in honor of the Girl Scouts 100th anniversary.

The Postal Service has issued a 100th anniversary stamp.

Disney World will host a special event honoring the Girl Scouts 100th anniversary in May

A 100th anniversary sing along will be held in June along the National Mall in Washington, DC.

The Girl Scout motto is: “Be Prepared”.

The Girl Scout slogan is: “Do A Good Turn Daily”.
