New York State Mandates ALL Pools Start Doing This
If you go to a public pool in New York State have you ever wondered how clean they actually are?
You have to imagine that kids go to the bathroom in there among other things. So, how do you know that the pool you are going in is safe and sanitary. New York State mandates a law that has any and all public pools be tested THREE TIMES PER DAY.
Is chlorine really okay for you to swim in? Experts say that it IS safe for people to swim in with the concentrated levels that are appropriate, but it just seems like it "shouldn't be". You have chlorine that breaks down all the skin oils, pee and sunscreen in a pool and our kids are accidentally drinking in it and swimming in it--it seems like it shouldn't be safe. Maybe that is why there are so many people switching from chlorine to salt in their pools at home.
According to the New York State Department of Health:
New York State regulations (Sanitary Code Subpart 6-1) require public pools to maintain free chlorine residuals between 0.6 mg/L (ppm) and 5.0 mg/L, with higher levels (1.5 ppm+) required if pH exceeds 7.8. Use of cyanuric acid-based chlorine (stabilizers) is prohibited. Disinfectant levels must be tested at least three times daily.
New York State bans this from you putting this in your pool
The State even goes as far as mandating how far down in the water you have to collect the sample (12 inches) and other banned substances that you cannot put in the pool: "Use of chlorine compounds containing cyanuric acid is not acceptable"
Did you know that New York State wants you to put an alarm on your pool at home?
After 2006 there is a law that makes New York homeowners responsible for putting an appropriate pool alarm on their pool now to avoid drowning.
