New York’s Statewide ALERT For This Looming Danger
The swimming season in New York State has a few weeks to go before it is time to close up the pools. However, before the fall, New York State is asking for help from those who own a pool.
The summer has been hot and muggy and there are some who are still cleaning up after the recent storms and the remnants of Hurricane Debby flooded portions of New York State.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is asking the public to be on the lookout for a few nasty critters.

In recent series of posts on "X", formerly Twitter, the agency noted that: "August is Tree Check Month in an effort to find and report Asian longhorned beetles (ALB)? ALB is an invasive wood-boring insect that feeds on trees including maple, birch, poplar, and willow".
The bugs are a danger to the many, incredible trees that we have here in New York State. The USDA says that: "The Asian longhorned beetle (ALB) is an invasive insect that attacks and kills maple and other hardwood trees".
You can help by reporting any of these bugs that you might find to the NYSDEC. Send an email to foresthealth@dec.ny.gov with the subject heading "ALB Pool Survey".
