It was 60 degrees and 9 a.m. in Sochi as Mike Gilbert, Buffalo Sabres vice president of public and community relations, rang in around midnight East Coast time. Mike is representing the USA over in Sochi with the rest of the men's Olympic hockey team, which includes Buffalo boys Ryan Miller, Pat Kane and Brooks Orpik.

I got to chat with him about the team, their chase for gold, the scene in Sochi and the internet-crazed living conditions of Olympians in Russia.

I started by asking what is the worst or most inconvenient part of being over there for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. "A lot of work," Gilbert said, and besides that, nothing. I mean, how could anything be bad when you're on the trip of a lifetime?

As for the living conditions...are they really that bad? How bad is the security? Which contest are the boys looking forward to, and which will be their biggest early challenge for Team USA? Check out part of the convo below!
