Special Honor Planned This Fall For Thurman Thomas

Pro Football and College Football Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas will receive one of the ultimate honors this fall.  The 1991 NFL Most Valuable Player and five-time Pro Bowl selection will have his #34 jersey retired when the Buffalo Bills host the New England Patriots on Monday night football on October 29th.

Thomas wore #34 in all three levels of football he played; high school, college and pro and he's the only player in NFL history to lead the league in yards from scrimmage for four consecutive seasons.  He's the Bills' all-time leader in both rushing yards (11,938) and rushing touchdowns (65).

And when you consider all of his accomplishments, especially in the NFL, it's amazing that he was a 2nd round selection in the 1988 NFL draft.  39 players were drafted ahead of him and he's famous for acknowledging that was a motivation throughout his career.  He even admitted that he often played back a tape of that draft so that he would always remember the feeling.

Inducted onto the Buffalo Bills Wall of Fame in 2005, Thurman Thomas will join Jim Kelly (#12) and Bruce Smith (#78) as the only players to have their numbers retired by the Bills.
