The Maple Leafs May Move To Buffalo For Playoffs?

As of right this second, the United States and Canada border is still shut down and looking forward could cause some headaches for the NHL as the Stanley Cup playoffs happen in June.

If you get access to cross the border, you need to quarantine in Canada for 14 days. Obviously, this will not work with the Stanley Cup playoffs schedule. So, how does the NHL handle it?

Now, this ONLY becomes an issue, if the border is freely open by the time the playoffs come along, but we are about three months away from playoff so they have to start looking into it. Remember, all 67 Canadian teams are in the NHL North Division by themselves to accommodate COVID protocols.

Pieree LeBrun from The Athletic suggested: "The Leafs play out of Buffalo? The Jets play out of Minnesota? The NHL’s Canadian division winner could relocate to the U.S. for semifinals, Stanley Cup final."

How will the playoffs work this year? The first two rounds of the playoffs will be intradivisional, with the first-place team playing the fourth-place team and the second-place team facing the third-place team in the first round. The four teams that advance from the second round to the Semifinal Round will be seeded by their points total in the regular season (No. 1 vs. No. 4; No. 2 vs. No. 3).

So, if the Maple Leafs move forward, how will they play the American team? Buffalo would be the best option and closest to home at that point.
