Before you ride your snowmobile, make sure that the trails you are on are actually open! Portions, of Western New York have received enough snow that the clubs that maintain the trails have given the green light.

The lake snow has been piling up in New York State and some areas near Lake Ontario have gotten over 60 inches of snow!

But back here in the Western New York area, the snow has been falling in a limited area.

If you have not joined a club where you ride, you should consider it. The clubs maintain the trails and the relationships with the landowners. Not only that, it also saves you money on the registration fees here in New York State.

On Sunday, January 5th, The Southern Tier Snow Drifters announced on Facebook that:

"We have been very busy the past few days getting things ready to roll and now we can enjoy some of our efforts.
We are able to open trail C4 from Perrysburg to South Dayton in Cattaraugus County. Please refer to the NYSSA Interactive map for updates. https://nyssa.evtrails.com/# "

The Cherry Creek Sno-Goers Facebook page noted that they were out grooming some trails and, according to a few posts on the page, the trails looked great and places like Stockton Hotel were packed with people enjoying the trails.

"Great day to be out. Parking lots were packed. Stockton hotel packed.
Huge thanks to all the clubs. Woods are a bit thin, fields and roads were great".

The forecast is calling for more cold weather and a few flurries this week. Be safe and check with the local clubs and maps for trail conditions and alerts.
