Summer parties are here. It's time for grad parties, 4th of July parties, and everything in between. That means it's salad season.

Everywhere you go this summer, you're going to see salads.  It's the first thing that most people think about when they're asked to bring a side dish or a dish to pass, and everyone has their favorites. First off, I know how ridiculous this is.  However, what I've learned over the last couple of days is that not all salads are created equally. People will forever argue about what the best salad is and the best way to make it.

There are mostly 5 different categories of salads that you'll see at parties

  • Mayonnaise-based salads
  • Potato Salads
  • Pasta salads
  • Green salads
  • Fruit salads

I asked people on Facebook to rank their favorites out of a list that I gave them and to add any that I didn't include.  This was the list of salads I wanted people to rank.

The list included:

1. Macaroni Salad
2. Broccoli Salad
3. German Potato Salad
4. Pasta salad (I like mine with cheese and bacon)
5. Green Salad
6. Tomato Cucumber Salad
7. Three-Bean Salad
8. Fruit Salad
9. Ambrosia (The Cool-Whip/Fruit Salad)
People pointed out almost right away that I didn't have "regular" potato salad on the list.  And while I agree I should have included it, I did include a potato salad (German Potato Salad) at #3.
I will choose macaroni salad almost every time.  The only time I don't choose that one is if it looks like it has way too much mayo/Miracle Whip in it, it's been out in the sun awhile (mayo based salads should never sit in the sun) or if the macaroni looks like it's overcooked.  Other than that, it's easily my go-to.
What does your ranking look like?
