Buffalo firefighters are holding their 9th annual "Fill the Boot" program this Thursday morning, August 3rd at various intersections in the city.  And some Buffalo Sabres will be helping out from 6:30 to 9 am.

Forward Justin Bailey and former players Patrick Kaleta and Andrew Peters as well as Sabretooth will be with the firefighters collecting for Spinal Muscular Atrophy Research.

  • Justin Bailey will be at Oak and Genesee, downtown.
  • Patrick Kaleta will be at the Skyway and Church, downtown
  • Andrew Peters will be at Abbott and Red Jacket Pkwy in South Buffalo
  • Sabretooth has been assigned the 190 exit at Niagara Street

Other locations in the city include:

  • Elm and Swan
  • Delaware and Hertel
  • Seneca and Bailey

Spinal Muscular Atrophy is the number one cause of death of children under the age of two.  It's a genetic disease that affects muscles that are used in crawling, walking, head and neck control and swallowing.  One in 35 people carry the gene that causes SMA.
