Evander Kane scored twice, his 8th and 9th goals of the season while Benoit Pouliot scored on an end to end rush in the third period unassisted that turned out to be the game winner.  That's his fifth of the season.

Meanwhile, Robin Lehner made 24 saves.  But this was a complete team effort.  It was all hands on deck.  There were no slackers in this game and it's the kind of game that coach Phil Housley and his team have been talking about off the ice, but rarely show it.

The Sabres came out with determination and essentially shut down the high-flying Capitals.  They held them to a season low four shots in the first period while putting 15 of their own on Capitals goaltender Phil Grubauer.

The Sabres remain home to host the Florida Panthers on Friday night.
