Time Magazine recently released their annual Most Influential People list for 2016. Some of the names to grace the list were Mark Zuckerburg, Priscilla Chan, Tim Cook, Ronda Rousey, PewDiePie and Donald Trump.

However, Time Magazine also released another Top 100 list and it's interesting – the Most Influential Animal list for 2016. Cecil the Lion takes the top spot for making headlines when the dentist from Minnesota went on a paid hunt and killed one of the area's beloved mascots. Other animals to grace the list include the Revenant Bear, Pizza Rat, the Zika Mosquito and the Freeway Llamas. However, out of the 100 animals listed not one was from the Buffalo area – that's just wrong. So a list needs to be created just for us.

Here are the Most Influential Animals in Buffalo! (In no particular order.)

  • The Bison

I think it goes without saying that this will always be an important and influential animal in our community. A "Buffalo" Bison can be seen almost everywhere in WNY. From the 90/190 split to your neighbor's Bills flag, the Bison is literally ingrained in our community.

  • Shark Girl

I know she is half girl/half shark, but it still counts! The fact that a piece of art could turn into not only a photo op, but also a tourist attraction says a lot. A top Halloween costume in the area, she is not only recognizable by her looks but also by name.

  • Baby Kayin

The community came together to name the son of Koga and Sydney after its birth at the Buffalo Zoo. After a round of voting "Kayin" was chosen. The name means "celebrated child" in Youruba, an African language in Nigeria. Not only is the baby adorable but it brought a surge of visitors to the zoo!

  • Sabretooth

Do we really need to explain? Even though the hockey season may be up and down, Sabretooth is always UP! From photo ops with the kids to photo ops with Lauren Hall, he is always ready for...a photo op!

  • Buster Bison

Play ball! With baseball season finally here Buster can come out of hibernation and get the crowd going at Coca-Cola Field! While his home is at the ballpark he is no stranger to public and charity events! No matter the reason Buster Bison will be there to entertain!

  • The White-Tailed Deer

For better or worse, these animals are everywhere! For hunters this is a good thing, but for Dale Mussen's backyard...not so much. Whether you like it or not, they might as well be next in line after the bison!

  • Spartacus The Diabetic Cat

I might be a bit bias, but Spartacus has kinda launched himself into WNY fame. Ever since he was mentioned on Clay, Dale and Liz and WIVB when Lauren Hall visited the studio he has gained a few fans. From his internet videos to stories on the radio...I think maybe he should be on this list.
