Watch For Colorful Display Tonight On Niagara Falls

They estimate that over 8 million visitors come to Niagara Falls every year.  If you're one of them tonight, here's why they'll be lit up orange...

It's actually pretty common to see the falls lit up in different colors throughout the warmer months.  The shows are courtesy of a board called The Niagara Falls Illumination Board.  They have special lights that are housed in the Illumination Tower, next to Queen Victoria Place; on the roof of Table Rock Centre, at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls; and deep in the Niagara Gorge, across from the American Falls.

Often on certain nights, they will light the falls to very specific colors to honor special causes or charitable foundations.

Tonight (6/21), they will be lit up in orange in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day.  It's an annual celebration of the rich and diverse cultures, voices, experiences, and histories of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada.  The all-orange illumination will only happen tonight from 9:45 to 10:00 pm.

The board is made up of representatives from the City of Niagara Falls Ontario, City of Niagara Falls, New York, Ontario Power Generation Inc., New York Power Authority, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and The Niagara Parks Commission.
