New York State Police Will Soon Use This New Crime Fighting Tool
Later this month New York State Police will add a new crime fighting tool to their arsenal. Governor Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced that an unmanned aerial system will begin operating to aid troopers in law enforcement missions including disaster response and traffic safety.
Four drones will be deployed across the state including one specifically to be used by Troop A serving Western New York. Eventually the State Police will have 14 drones at their disposal.
Troopers envision using the drones to reconstruct serious traffic crashes to reduce the time that roadways are closed and to investigate crime scenes.
Troopers operating the system will be undergoing training and will be FAA Certified.
