If you live in the southtowns, you may have experienced water problems on Thursday afternoon -- either with low water pressure or no water at all for a few hours.

That's because of a major water main break in the Town of Evans late Thursday morning. According to Fire Buffalo NY, it was a 48-inch water transmission water main near the Erie County Water Authorities Sturgeon Point Water Treatment Plant.

The result were numerous houses along Lake Shore Road flooded, along with part of the road being washed away entirely, leaving a massive sinkhole.

Highland & North Evans Fire Companies, along with other mutual aid departments worked at the site this afternoon.

The ECWA says that repairs are expected to take 24 hours but the situation, as of Thursday evening, has been stabilized. No customers are currently without water and any tap water is still safe to consume like normal.

That's definitely one of the largest water main breaks I've ever seen. Absolutely crazy that it can create a sinkhole that big and wash away the road. It also left a lot of flooding at nearby homes.
