After that awful game in Edmonton on Monday the Buffalo Sabres needed to respond in a big way.  And they did respond Wednesday night with a 4-3 overtime win over the Calgary Flames, the best team in the Western Conference.

For the second year in a row, Jack Eichel scored the overtime game winner in Calgary.  Along with an assist on a goal by defenseman Rasmus Dahlin it was Eichel's first points in five games.

Defensemen scoring has made a big difference for the Sabres this year and along with the goal by Dahlin, Jake McCabe also scored.  Evan Rodrigues opened the Buffalo scoring with a breakaway goal off a perfect pass from Casey Mittelstadt.

Oddly, the Sabres scored on each of their last three shots in the game including the overtime winner.

Goaltender Linus Ullmark stopped 30 of 33 shots to pick up his 10th win in 16 games this season.

The Sabres close out the road trip with a visit to Vancouver on Friday night.
