New York State makes it illegal to pick up a fawn. This is the time of the year in late May and early June where deer are going to start having babies and appear as if they are abandoning them.

The moms are actually not abandoning them and are actually going to eat and will come back to the fun but just like us they know exactly where they play something unless someone else touches it. Therefore if a human picks up or even touches the fawn the mom made delay coming back to come visit it and or nurse the deer and that is why Fons should never be picked up. It's only lasts for a couple of months and then the baby deer will be well on their way.

What do I do if I find a deer or lawn just laying there in an unsafe spot?

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) advises that if you find a fawn, you should leave it alone ("If You Care, Leave It There"), as fawns are rarely abandoned, even if left alone for hours, according to the New York State DEC.

If the phone is truly in danger in a spot that it could get harmed like a highway or similar then you should call officials.

Does anybody in Western New York remember the Cheektowaga deer lady? It is also illegal in New York state to feed deer so be careful what you are doing in your backyard. There was one woman in Western New York who would always feed the deer at one of the parks in Cheektowaga. She would go all the time to Losson Park and feed the deer and she was arrested multiple times for it before eventually getting fined and put in jail by police. That story alone is an example of the fact that they officials are not messing around when it comes to the protocol to deer in New York State.
