The company put out a tweet acknowledging the shortage.

The soda maker cites increased demand as the reason for the shortage.

Sales of the soda have "increased consistently over the last four years," the company said in a statement to CNN.

CNN reports they asked if the shortage had to due with the decreased availability of aluminum cans. The company did not respond to the question.

"Rest assured we're working with our local distribution partners experiencing low inventory levels in certain markets to meet this increased demand, and we encourage every loyal Dr Pepper fan to continue checking their local retailer for their favorite varieties," the company said.

In an email statement to the Today show, Keurig Dr. Pepper (the parent company of the soda brand), said that for the past four years sales have been trending upward, including a 15% bump in 2020.
