Today, acts like Midland, Chris Stapleton, Jon Pardi and Runaway June are proving that traditional minded country music is still popular. That's exactly the kind of country that singer-songwriter Greg Bates was.

"Did It for the Girl" was Bates' debut single and fit that traditional style with some modern touches. It honestly sounded like something you would've heard in the early 2000's, rather than 2012.

Released in April of 2012, "Did It for the Girl" peaked at #5 on both the Mediabase and Billboard Country Airplay charts in December. Written by Bates, Lynn Hutton and Rodney Clawson, the song was off his debut self-titled EP.

Bates next single was "Fill in the Blank", which only reached #44 in April of 2013. Greg would leave his label Republic Nashville (Big Machine Label Group) by the end of the year. He never released another song to radio.

Hopefully Greg Bates can return one day to the mainstream country scene. His wife is also a country music artist, Shelley Skidmore.

"Did It for the Girl" is one of those songs that never gets old. It has a charm about its music and lyrics that make it an easy sing-along.
