You have seen them growing in popularity around New York State but some towns have had enough of e-bikes already.

The summer will be here soon and the weather is slowing starting to cooperate. We go through this every year; it gets warm, then cold, then eventually hot and dry! The cycle of good versus bad weather in the spring seems to be a long battle.

But the spring is here and bicycles are everywhere. But the bikes that have added power are causing concern and some towns are debating a possible ban in certain areas after injuries and complaints.

If you have an e-bike, what does the future look like?

New York State Laws On E-Bikes

According to the law, there are some restrictions as to where you are allowed to operate that e-bike. The DMV website indicates that: "You can operate these devices on highways with a posted speed limit of 30 MPH or less".

But that is also limited to local town law. In Clifton Park there are discussions about a possible ban on the use of electric bikes.

As far as who can ride an e-bike, New York State has some laws for that as well. While you don't need a license, you must be at least 16 to operate these popular bikes.

As Memorial Day approaches this is a good time to remember to pay extra attention for those on bikes and to share the road with them.
