There’s been so much great news across Western New York lately, in regards to fairs, festivals and other events that will take place this summer, after getting canceled in 2020. The Erie County Fair and Taste of Buffalo will take place this summer, but people are wondering about 4th of July firework shows?

Unfortunately, one of the most popular 4th of July fireworks shows in Western New York has been canceled this summer.

According to WKBW, the annual 4th of July fireworks show at UB’s north campus in Amherst has been officially canceled, due to COVID-19 concerns.

Joe McMahon, Chief of Staff for the Amherst Town Supervisor, says that the show will return in 2022. This is the second year in a row the Amherst fireworks show at UB has been called off.

This is the fireworks show I went to growing up in North Amherst and it’s sad it won’t happen again this summer. It usually attracts thousands of people and is so much fun for kids and getting to spend quality holiday time with family and friends.

We’ll see how many of the usual big firework shows still take place this summer. I definitely think more will happen than last year, when nearly all of them were called off, but the pandemic is still on everyone’s mind and even with the new CDC guidelines, planning and logistics also come into play with these events.
