Chicken Fail! Shocking Tail From Western New York Family

We have all dreamed of having our chickens at one time or another and for us, the dream is now a reality. But it comes with a challenge that we did not anticipate.

My wife wanted to get a chicken coop and chickens for her Mother's Day gift this year. After some consideration and conversation, we did it! We ordered the coop, got the permit and got the chicks.

Fast forward to a month or two later, and we are faced with a minor dilemma.

As the chicks started to grow, I thought I heard one of them crow like a rooster! This was something that the farmer we got them from had warned us about and even offered to replace one of them should they actually be a rooster instead of a hen.

This being the first time we have ever had chickens, we are paying close attention to see if the crowing we thought we heard was real? My wife gave all the chickens a name that is a famous female singer. For example, the suspect bird named "Wynonna" may actually be Waylon?

If you ask the kids, they are divided. However, I will say that the chickens have been a great addition to our family and the kids are learning a lot about responsibility and, as an added bonus, biology and anatomy!

We will be keeping an eye on Wynonna as we dream about all of the eggs we SHOULD be getting when they eventually start laying them.
